This theatrical poster advertises *Caleb West*, a stage adaptation by Michael Morton of F. Hopkinson Smith's story of New England sea people, produced by Jacob Litt. The novel on which it is based, *Caleb West, Master Diver*, follows a diver whose work and character are rooted in the coastal communities of New England. Strobridge Lithographing Company, which printed the sheet in Cincinnati and New York around 1900, was one of the leading American firms for theatrical advertising of the period, producing large, colorful bills that were pasted on city walls and station hoardings to draw audiences to touring and resident productions. The gallery's lighthouse category suggests the sea-coast setting that the printers chose to emphasize.
