Volunteering down Dixie" is an 1861 lithograph printed in Cincinnati by Ehrgott & Forbriger, which deposited its impression for copyright on July 8 of that year. Its listed subjects are the Confederate army, African Americans, and the draft, so it likely belongs to the early Civil War tradition of satirical prints that mocked Southern recruiting and the secessionist cause. The record links it to two other Ehrgott & Forbriger prints, "Strayed" and "Ye Conference," which the same unidentified artist drew, suggesting a small group of work the firm issued in the first months of the war.
