A single white horse named Aver, identified in the album caption as a Trakehner, stands at the center of this albumen print. The Abdullah Frères studio, a well-known photography firm in Constantinople, made it between 1880 and 1893, during the reign of Sultan Abdul-Hamid II. It belongs to an album of horses at the Imperial Stud Farm on the outskirts of Istanbul. The Trakehner breed was developed in East Prussia, so the picture also reflects the sultan's interest in European horse breeding alongside the older Arabian lines.
