Its slogan, "Give 'er the gun," and the pitch "Learn - earn" sell the Army Air Service as a place to acquire a trade and a paycheck, not just a fighting job. The poster is a chromolithograph by Warren Keith, printed by Edwards & Deutsch Litho. Co. in Chicago, and the record dates it to about 1919. That was the year after the armistice ended World War I, when the Army still needed to fill its ranks and aviation was drawing young men who had grown up with the airplane. Recruiting art of this period often mixed patriotic emblems with images of modern machines, and this one follows that pattern.
