The record offers little beyond its title: wreckage at the site of a new library building in Indianapolis, captured on a glass negative. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers with pictures of current events in the early twentieth century, made the negative, and its caption cards were often written quickly for the news desk. The title comes from those unverified notes, so the exact event and date remain uncertain. Pictures like this one show how a city's building projects could become news when something went wrong on site.
