A child's plea in the title sets this 1915 poster apart: "So that papa may come home on leave, please." Signed by Poulbot, the Paris illustrator known for his scruffy street urchins, it uses that familiar figure to support the French Red Cross during the First World War. With French men at the front and families under strain, the poster ties a child's hope for a father's return to the work of wartime relief. The two-color lithograph also exists in another edition, where the same image carries different wording.
