Couzene & Pepper is the name recorded for this glass negative, dated February 7, 1923, though that caption data came from the negative or its sleeve and has not been verified. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm active in the early twentieth century, documented city streets, events and everyday life. Herbert A. French gave the plate to the Library of Congress in 1947. Look for the streaks and blemishes that the record attributes to natural deterioration of the original coatings, which show how glass plates age.
