Number 10 in a series called *The Illustration of the Siberian War*, this color lithograph is captioned "Furious fighting at Amur," placing its action along the Amur River in eastern Siberia. Published in Tokyo by Shobido & Co. around 1919, it belongs to a body of Japanese prints covering the Siberian Intervention, when Japanese troops joined Allied forces in Siberia after the Russian Revolution of 1917. The railroad among its subjects points to the Trans-Siberian line, which carried troops and supplies across the region. Its captions in both Japanese and English suggest the series was meant for an audience beyond Japan.
