Unlike the many views of the White House exterior, this photograph looks inside the executive offices, at a conference room furnished with a long table and ten chairs. The image was made around 1909, the year the presidency passed from Theodore Roosevelt to William Howard Taft, when staff work in the building was growing. The photographer's credit to Clinedinst points to the Washington studio that made many official portraits and views of government rooms in the early 1900s. The record's date and attribution come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified.
