This 1920 etching and aquatint is an artist's proof, a trial impression pulled outside the numbered edition so the maker could check the plate before printing more. It is signed and dated in pencil by John Taylor Arms, whose collector's mark also appears on the sheet, and the printer's name has been erased. Arms was known for precise etchings of architecture and quiet landscapes. The aquatint, applied alongside line work, lets the printmaker build soft tonal areas instead of relying only on hatched lines, a technique many American printmakers favored in the 1910s and 1920s.
