A single biplane, with its two stacked wings, is the subject of this 8 by 6 inch glass negative, which belongs to the National Photo Company Collection. The Library of Congress assigned the title itself, and the negative is dated only to between 1910 and 1920, a decade when biplane designs dominated early aviation and were rapidly adopted for military training and wartime service. The notes also point to streaks and other blemishes from the deterioration of the original coatings, which is worth keeping in mind when viewing the image.
