Four people are named in this glass negative's title: Dr. Cook, Adams, John Barrett, and Sir George and Lady Reid, though the Bain caption data behind that title is unverified. Sir George Reid served as prime minister of Australia in 1904 and 1905 and later as Australia's High Commissioner in London, which makes his presence in a Bain photograph notable. George Grantham Bain's New York agency, begun in the early 1900s, sold news pictures to newspapers, and its glass plates show how public figures were recorded for a wide readership. The record gives no date, so the occasion itself remains unknown.
