Mathematics is an unusual subject for a poster, which sets this 1936 silkscreen apart from the program's more familiar notices about theater and health. Its title, *Occupations related to mathematics*, points to the range of jobs that relied on number work during the Depression, and the catalog credits Charlotte Barrows Chorpenning as sponsor under the Federal theater Project in New York. The Federal theater Project was part of the Works Progress Administration, which used silkscreen to produce inexpensive posters in large runs. The medium's flat, bold color made the posters easy to read from across a street, and this one shows how federal arts programs also addressed workers about careers.
