Few posters of the period treat housework and home-related trades as a field of employment, and this 1938 silkscreen print, titled "Occupations related to household arts," does exactly that. It was made under the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration, which used silkscreen because the stencil process could produce bold, flat color in quantity at low cost. The subject tags place the work in Ohio during the 1930s, when federal posters often promoted job skills and public programs. The date stamped on the back, March 10, 1938, situates it within the Project's busy output of that year.
