Printed in Buffalo, New York, rather than Boston, this poster advertises a touring company that built its reputation in the Boston theater scene. The Bostonians, as the troupe was widely known, performed light operas, especially Gilbert and Sullivan, and toured American cities for decades. Around 1900, color lithography like this was a main way traveling shows drew audiences in the towns they visited. The bold color and large lettering were meant to be read from across a street.
