This color lithograph poster advertises The Bostonians, a light opera company, and it names its proprietors, Henry Clay Barnabee and Frederic MacDonald, along with the New York theatrical firm Klaw & Erlanger, which managed the company's bookings. The company grew out of a Boston troupe and was known for staging comic operas in the English style associated with Gilbert and Sullivan, a popular form of entertainment on American stages at the turn of the century. The poster's bold claim that the group was "America's greatest light opera company" reflects how theatrical advertising of the period promoted touring companies. The printer, the Courier Company of Buffalo, New York, was a well-known lithographic house.
