Terry Allen appears here in half-length profile, facing left and wearing uniform, with a personal inscription to Col. Arthur T. Dalton. Allen commanded the 1st Infantry Division in North Africa and Sicily during World War II, and his frontline style made him one of the army's most recognizable combat leaders. The photograph is dated only to between 1930 and 1950, a span that covers his years of service through the war. The signed dedication gives it a personal character that formal studio portraits of officers often lack.
