Few posters on this board set farm work and factory work side by side as directly as this 1941 Michigan example, which urges residents to take part in a U.S. Employment Service survey of available labor. The Federal Art Project produced silkscreen posters like this one for federal agencies, and in 1941 the country was preparing for war, when moving workers between fields and war plants was a pressing concern. A January 1943 date stamp on the front shows the sheet stayed in use or on file well after it was printed, and its pairing of rural and industrial labor reflects how the wartime economy depended on both.
