Richard Baxter, the English Puritan minister who lived from 1615 to 1691, is the subject of this engraved portrait, though the caption card records no date for it. Baxter served as a parish pastor at Kidderminster and wrote widely on devotion and pastoral care, including *The Saints' Everlasting Rest*. He was among the clergy who refused to conform after the Act of Uniformity of 1662, and he later faced imprisonment for his preaching. The card credits the engraving to J.W. Paradise, an attribution the record itself marks as unverified.
