Addressed to "all employees" of a plant doing work under a United States Navy contract, this lithograph speaks to factory workers rather than to would-be enlistees. It asks them to treat their daily labor as a patriotic service, reminding them that "our soldiers and sailors are depending on you." Issued in 1917, the year the United States entered World War I, it reflects how the government came to rely on private industry to build and supply the fleet and the armed forces. The quotation at the top, attributed to President Woodrow Wilson and calling on every man who is "not a slacker" to stand with him, ties civilian production directly to national loyalty.
