Vuillard's hanging lamp gives this color lithograph its title, *Intérieur à la suspension*, or "interior with a suspended lamp," and it is the fifth plate in his *Paysages et Intérieurs* series. Ambroise Vollard published the set in 1899, when Vuillard was working in the intimate domestic manner he shared with the Nabis painters, rendering rooms in soft, patterned color. Lithography suited his flat, layered tones, and the print turns an ordinary lit room into a quiet study of light and pattern. This impression is the third state, so the plate was reworked during printing, a detail that interests collectors who track his prints.
