Boy Scouts are the focus of this Third Liberty Loan poster, which sets it apart from the soldier and battlefield imagery common in wartime art. J.C. Leyendecker, already known for his magazine illustrations, designed it, and the American Lithographic Company of New York printed the color lithograph. The Liberty Loans were government bonds sold to help finance American participation in World War I, and the Boy Scouts of America took part in the sales drives. The title, "Weapons for Liberty," presents buying bonds as a way for civilians to join the fight.
