Few sites in Greece carried as much weight as the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, which this card locates in relation to the Rodini Cliffs. In antiquity the sanctuary housed the most famous oracle in the Greek world, where the priestess known as the Pythia gave answers to questions from rulers and city-states. The stereograph was published by Underwood & Underwood, the American firm that sold views like this to parlor viewers and travelers around 1906. Seen through the paired images, the ruins sit dramatically on the slopes of Mount Parnassus.
