The Balloon Polka leads this sheet music cover, which bundles it with the Brunette Polka and the Adriatic Polka. A. Wallerstein composed the set, and Firth, Pond & Co., a prominent New York music publisher, issued it with a color lithograph by Sarony & Major of New York. Polkas were the dance craze of the mid-nineteenth century, and publishers used bright pictorial covers to sell them to families with parlor pianos. The record gives no printed date, so the period is estimated from other sheet music of the era.
