The slogan sets the factory floor beside the front, urging Britons to "get into the factory line" so the "firing line" stays supplied. Printed in London in 1917 for the Ministry of Munitions, the color lithograph comes from a wartime effort created in 1915 to speed up production of shells, guns and explosives after shortages had exposed the army's dependence on home industry. Recruiting workers, many of them women who took up munitions work, was central to that campaign. The poster was produced by the Carlton Studio, a London commercial art firm, and its wording presents factory labor as service comparable to soldiering.
