The subject is Keefer, a high school in Alexandria, Virginia, recorded on this glass negative sometime between 1916 and 1917. The National Photo Company, based in Washington, D.C., made a large body of views of American towns, streets and public buildings in those years, many of which were sold as souvenir prints and postcards. Because the glass plate is more than a century old, its original coating has deteriorated, leaving streaks and other blemishes that are visible across the image. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
