Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, is the subject of this 1935 safety film negative, one of many views the National Photo Company made of the Washington area during the decades it operated. The school, named for Montgomery Blair, a postmaster general under Abraham Lincoln, served the growing suburban community north of the District of Columbia. The National Photo Company was known for its large commercial output of street scenes, buildings, and civic subjects, and this negative came to the Library of Congress as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French. Its record notes possible streaks and blemishes from deterioration of the original coatings, which are visible traces of the film's age.
