Rather than the harbor or the streets, this view turns to a private house in Veracruz, where, according to the caption, American sailors stood guard over a sick woman. The United States Navy seized the Mexican port in April 1914 after a dispute over Tampico, and American forces remained there for months while the Mexican Revolution unfolded across the country. The caption came from the Bain News Service and has not been verified, and the record does not say who the woman was or when the photograph was taken.
