Thomas Edison's phonograph is the subject here, shown at his Experimental Department in Orange, New Jersey, on September 24, 1892. Edison had introduced his tinfoil talking machine in 1877, and by the early 1890s his laboratory was refining wax-cylinder models for dictation and home entertainment. W. K. Dickson, an engineer who worked on Edison's motion picture experiments, is credited with the copyright on the print. The date and attribution come from a catalog card that has not been fully verified.
