A World War I recruiting-style poster, this lithograph carries a quoted line from a soldier "over there" about the Young Men's Christian Association dugout, the YMCA's canteen and hut network near the front. Designed by John F. Butler and printed by the Globe Lithographing Company in 1917, it asks American viewers to give money to the National War Work Council, the body that raised funds for YMCA services to troops. The YMCA ran writing rooms, canteens, and recreation facilities for American servicemen in France, and posters like this one tied those services to a personal appeal, framing a donation as a way of letting the boys know that someone at home cared.
