The slogan, "Campesino, la revolución te dará la tierra!" ("Peasant, the revolution will give you the land!"), speaks straight to rural workers and links the Iron Column to the land promises of the Republican left. The Iron Column, or Iron Battalion, was a militia made up largely of prisoners from Valencian jails and served under officers of the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) on the Republican side in 1936 and 1937. Printed in Valencia under a joint UGT and CNT imprint, this color lithograph is typical of Republican posters of the period, which aimed to recruit fighters and win support in the countryside.
