The Civilian Conservation Corps, created in 1933 as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal, put young men to work on conservation projects across the country, and tree planting was among its most visible tasks. This print shows workers setting out seedlings, a reminder of the program's broader aim of reforestation and soil protection after decades of logging and erosion. The caption card does not record a date, so the exact moment is uncertain, but the scene fits the corps' work in the 1930s, when crews planted millions of trees on national forests and other public lands.
