A farm harvest scene on the front of this mounted print is paired with a picture of five young dogs asleep on the back, a combination that sets it apart from ordinary field views. The caption card links the subject to farm work and to dogs, but the card is old, its details are unverified, and no date is recorded. Mounted photoprints like this were a common way to show rural labor in the decades around 1900, when hand and horse-drawn harvesting were still widespread on American farms. The sleeping puppies on the reverse are a reminder that such mounts were often kept as keepsakes, so the back may say as much about how the object was used as the field scene does.
