Reno's Depot Hotel stood beside the railroad station, so guests arriving by train could step from the platform straight to a room, and this lithograph shows the hotel under the proprietorship of W.R. Chamberlain. Reno grew up around the Central Pacific line, which reached the area in 1868, and the depot district became the town's commercial center. The view was published by Britton & Rey, a San Francisco lithography firm known for its western town views, and it appeared in Thomas Angel's *History of Nevada* in 1881, opposite page 112. The print is a useful record of how a railroad hotel announced itself to travelers in the early 1880s.
