Labeled "Upper Cape," this 1891 view covers the neck of Cape Cod, where the peninsula meets the mainland and the land is broader and flatter than at the outer towns. The record credits George H. Walker, but it does not name a specific town or landmark. In that period the Upper Cape was a mix of farming, cranberry growing, salt-hay meadows, and small harbor villages, and railroads had carried summer visitors and freight to towns such as Sandwich and Falmouth for decades. Notice the open land and the sparse settlement, which show how much of the region was still rural.
