A color poster for Cortina d'Ampezzo, the mountain resort in northeastern Italy's Dolomites, promotes winter sport in a valley that had long drawn visitors to its alpine slopes. It was issued by ENIT, the Ente Nazionale per le Industrie Turistiche, the national tourism agency Italy set up after World War I to market the country abroad. The period dates the design to the 1940s, when Italian resorts were working to rebuild their appeal after the war. Cortina later hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics, which gave its skiing reputation a wider international audience.
