Most tourism posters of the 1950s sold sun and sea, but this one, issued in Nice, pairs Corsica with both snow skiing and water skiing, a combination that suggests the island was being marketed as a year-round destination. Corsica's mountain interior holds snow in winter while its coasts stay mild, and the poster's appeal rests on that contrast. The Fédération des Syndicats d'Initiatives, a network of local tourist associations in France, produced such posters to attract visitors to the Riviera and nearby regions during the postwar rise of leisure travel. The artist, E. Fer, is credited on the design.
