The only identifying detail in the record is the name "N. Franko," and the record itself notes that the title comes from unverified caption data, so the sitter and occasion cannot be confirmed here. The picture survives as a glass negative, the format the Bain News Service relied on for much of its work in the early twentieth century. Bain's photographers covered New York's theater, music, politics and public life, and their negatives were often captioned for newspaper use. Researchers should treat the name as a lead to check against other Bain records rather than as settled fact.
