Crowds like this one gathered in front of newspaper offices across the country to follow World Series games played far away. In this scene, a Washington crowd stands in the street reading a Washington Post scoreboard as results were posted. The 1912 Series pitted the Boston Red Sox against the New York Giants, and Boston won the eight-game matchup. The photograph was made by Harris & Ewing, a Washington studio founded in 1905, and it captures both the city's street life and the fan culture of the period.
