Survivors aboard the Carpathia, the Cunard liner that reached the Titanic's lifeboats in April 1912, are the focus of this photograph. The Carpathia picked up roughly 700 people after the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank on April 15, then carried them to New York. The print comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a news photographer whose pictures documented the events of that decade. Its caption card files it under ship accidents.
