Seen from above, the building's broad dome and symmetrical wings stand out against the grid of Havana's streets. The Capitolio Nacional was completed in 1929 as the seat of the Cuban legislature, and its design echoes the United States Capitol in Washington. The aerial angle of this view, likely taken between 1935 and 1947, shows how the monument anchored the city's government district and how Havana had grown around it in the years between the wars.
