This 1869 lithograph is less a portrait of a ballclub than an advertisement for a cigar. Its title names Henry Koop's Central Avenue shop in Cincinnati, and the nine players are presented as a selling point for his "Red Stockings" brand. The team was the first openly all-professional club, and it went the entire 1869 season without a loss, so the cigar makers borrowed its fame. The image was printed by the Cincinnati lithographers Tuchfarber, Walkley, and Moellmann, a firm that produced many commercial prints of the period.
