This 1869 lithograph shows the first nine of the Cincinnati Red Stockings, a team name that a local tobacconist, Henry Koop, used to sell his cigars. The Cincinnati firm Tuchfarber, Walkley and Moellmann printed the sheet. That season the club was the first openly all-professional team, and it went undefeated, which made its name a strong selling point. After the club moved to Boston in 1871, it became the Boston Red Stockings, the team this board is filed under.
