Cincinnati's pork trade is the subject of this double-page wood engraving, published in *Harper's Weekly* on September 6, 1873, from drawings by H.F. Farny. By the mid-nineteenth century the city had earned the nickname Porkopolis, as its packing houses processed hogs on a scale that drew national attention. The engraving reproduces the slaughter and processing work that fed that industry. Because it spans two pages, it offers a wider view of the packing operations than a single-column illustration could.
