Few American places are as tied to winter sport as Lake Placid in the Adirondacks, where the bobsled run built for the 1932 Winter Olympics is still in use. This color silkscreen, made by the WPA Federal Art Project in New York City in the late 1930s, pairs the run with flags and the line "Up where winter calls to play" to invite visitors to the village. The WPA poster unit helped establish silkscreen as a practical method for printing public notices in quantity. This copy carries a February 1938 date stamp on its back, which places it in the middle of the program's efforts to promote local recreation.
