Dedicated to Major General George B. McClellan, a newly prominent Union commander, this sheet music title page was composed by Mary Farrell Moore of Cincinnati and dated July 4, 1861. The color lithograph, published in Philadelphia by Lee & Walker and lithographed by T. Sinclair, pairs a patriotic song with the symbolic figure of Columbia and the American flag. Issued only months after the attack on Fort Sumter, it shows how popular songs and their decorative covers carried Northern patriotism into parlors during the first summer of the Civil War.
