Titled "General Harrison, the Washington of the West," this lithograph casts William Henry Harrison as the frontier heir to George Washington, a comparison central to his 1840 presidential campaign. A former army general and governor of the Indiana Territory, Harrison had earned fame as the "hero of Tippecanoe," and Whig promoters leaned on that record of military service and western roots. The print was lithographed by T. Sinclair and published by J.F. Watson, who entered it for copyright in 1840. Harrison won the election but died in office about a month after his inauguration in 1841.
