Laurens Koster Spel is a game built around Laurens Janszoon Coster, the Haarlem figure whom 17th-century Dutch writers credited with inventing movable-type printing. That claim was never documented in his own lifetime, and it competed with the German tradition that credits Johannes Gutenberg. As a woodcut with hand coloring, the sheet belongs to a long line of printed board games that used play to teach history and civic pride, and it shows how strongly the Dutch wanted their own printing origin story remembered. No date is recorded, so the exact period of production is uncertain.
