A mock theater curtain, titled "A new drop scene," is the detail that sets this print apart from other satires of its day. Its joke turns the stage backdrop into a stage for personal ridicule, aimed at the figures named in the title. The print was published on May 1, 1808, in *The Satirist*, a London monthly known for scandal and pointed attacks on public people. It is attributed here to Samuel De Wilde, a artist who drew and engraved for the magazine. Hand-coloring, common on such prints, helped make the images eye-catching for buyers at the shop counter.
