Howard Chandler Christy, whose glamorous women appeared on magazine covers and advertising across the country, drew this 1915 call to arms for the Marine Corps. The slogan "If you want to fight!" speaks to the preparedness debate of that year, when the United States was still neutral in the European war but military recruiting was already expanding. Color halftone posters like this one hung in post offices, storefronts and town squares, reaching far more people than a recruiter could on foot.
